New Jersey Legislation

Did you know that there are state laws about recycling?  And about idling your car?

All Residents Must Recycle!

Back in 1987, Governor Kean signed a mandatory recycling law which requires people to separate out their glass aluminum, and newspapers.  Since then, we have also started recycling plastic.  Check out our Recycling section to learn more.

Starting January 1, 2011, everyone will be required to recycle electronic items as well.  Why not get a start on it?  Take your items to the Department of Public Works (359 Boyden Ave.) on their Electronic Recycling Days.

Be Idle Free in New Jersey!

Anti-IdlingIn 2007, New Jersey adopted Anti-Idling legislation.  What does that mean?  The law says that you cannot leave your car idling (engine running but not moving) for more than 3 minutes without being subject to a fine.  (If you are stopped for more than three hours and it is less than 25 degrees fahrenheit, the limit is 15 minutes.)  You can get fined $100 for the first offense, $200 for the second offense, $500 for the third offense and a whopping $1,500 if you keep doing it!  For more facts on idling go to our Anti-Idling section or to the Clean Air: Idle Free New Jersey site.
