ENVIRONMENT / SOLAR CHALLENGE

Interested in solar panels for your home or business but confused by the options?

Maplewood Township has partnered with Sustainable Jersey to bring you a new tool that gives you quotes from up to eight pre-qualified contractors.  All of the options (including purchasing outright, leasing, and purchase power agreements) are provided in direct comparison, so you can choose the best option.

Looked into solar before and were told your roof was not a good candidate?

If your roof was evaluated before 2014, new technologies mean that you may be a candidate now.  The program is free and easy so it is worth a second look.

Why go solar?

  1. Saves money (a lot of money).
  2. Saves the environment.

The Maplewood Solar Challenge is a free and easy way to see the options for solar on your home or business.

FAQs:

What if my home has a big tree preventing me from getting solar?

The Maplewood Tree Ordinance prohibits the removal of trees to facilitate solar installations.  However, you should look into essexcommunityenergy.org, a township sponsored outreach program that helps residents learn about rebates and financing for energy upgrades like insulation and air sealing.

Am I eligible for solar if I have a slate roof?

Slate roofs are not good surfaces for solar, again, we encourage you to look into essexcommunityenergy.org, a township sponsored outreach program that helps residents learn about rebates and financing for energy upgrades like insulation and air sealing.
